By combining passion and love for music with the intense desire to express his message, Ian Cahill’s music intrigues the ear. It is as unique as it is classic; his adventure through life and music has no rules, no limits, and no hesitation as he combines his roots in reggae music with all he has learned while studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. From jazz, to funk, hip-hop to soul, Miles Davis to Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley to D'Angelo, his musical interests and influences are as broad as the ocean floor.
Ian, a native from the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, grew up listening to Bob Marley and the Wailers and always loved music, though he didn't pick up an instrument until he was 16 years old. He recalls his friends wanting to start a band and everyone wanted to play guitar or drums, so he decided to play bass. With no formal training until the age of 21, he began playing and formed a band with his friends called Natural Soul. The band was a reggae band that got local recognition in their hometown of San Juan and opened up for big reggae acts like legends Israel Vibration, Dezaire, and Steel Pulse in the Tito Puente Amphitheater, while still gigging at local lounges, bars, and clubs.
Whether remixing, collaborating, writing, DJing, performing live, or being the musical director for his live project (Da' Bone Hip-Hop) Ian Cahill's music is the product of sincerety. Now, while on his final stretch at Berklee College of Music, Cahill as been exploring new horizons in the form of electronic music. With new influences such as Squarepusher, Deadmau5, and Skrillex, Ian has been workingon developing a new style, or "voice", he says, as an electronic producer, while remaining true to his roots and passion for performing.
